Hi, I’m Donovan Dock. I built this Launch Playbook to walk you through how to move from vision to a real, revenue-generating product launch. Over the years I’ve launched products at different scales — from solo-entrepreneur projects to corporate rollouts — and what I want to share with you here is the same playbook I use when I’m building, validating, and shipping something that truly changes lives. This Launch Playbook distills the mindset, the sequence, and the tactical steps you need to take so your launch isn’t guesswork. It’s a plan.
Throughout this guide you’ll get concrete steps for validating your market using AI, building anticipation, crafting AI-powered lead magnets, writing a seven-series email sequence, creating a beta community, generating social proof, designing retargeting strategies, and launching with urgency. I’ll keep the tone straightforward and practical — the way I teach in the studio — because launches shouldn’t be more complicated than they need to be, but they do require discipline and a plan. This Launch Playbook will help you structure that discipline across the next 90 days through to a 12-month milestone.
This Launch Playbook is a practical roadmap. It’s not a silver bullet or a step-by-step script that magically makes everything work without effort. Instead, think of it as a framework layered with AI-driven tactics and old-school principles like community and real feedback.
Who this is for: solopreneurs, small teams, founders, and creators who want to get a product to market with clarity.
Who this isn’t for: people looking for a one-click shortcut or those unwilling to put in sprint work.
There are two broad launch categories I want you to understand up front: the solopreneur way and the corporate way. The solopreneur wants to get a product assembled quickly, run a few AI prompts, and ship. Corporate launches involve more layers, approvals, and sequencing. This Launch Playbook is designed to be flexible: it gives you a simple backbone you can scale up or down depending on your resources.
Validation used to be slow and messy: a lot of trial and error, expensive surveys, and guesswork. Today, validation can be fast, data-driven, and intelligent. The first step in the Launch Playbook is market validation — and yes, that includes using AI to gather and analyze market signals before you commit to heavy development.
Here’s the core idea: get data on the problem you intend to solve, the language your potential customers use, and the competing solutions already on the market. AI can accelerate each of these tasks.
Why validate first?
Put simply: if you don’t validate, you’re building for yourself — not your customer. Validation reduces wasted effort, shortens product-market fit time, and allows you to optimize your value proposition before you pour months into development.
Practical AI validation steps
Collect public signals: Use AI to scrape comments, forum posts, review sections, and social threads related to your niche. Ask AI to summarize sentiment, recurring complaints, and feature requests.
Keyword & trend analysis: Ask AI to analyze search trends and long-tail keywords so you can find what people are actively searching for and the language they use.
Competitive gap analysis: Prompt AI to compare competing products and identify missing features or underserved customer segments.
Customer persona generation: Feed AI your initial ideas and ask it to generate customer personas with pain points, motivations, and probable objections.
Pre-launch survey automation: Use AI to help draft targeted survey questions and A/B test them to discover what people care about most.
Done right, this phase saves time. You’ll know whether you should pivot, simplify, or double-down. Remember: “haste makes waste.” That old adage matters. A focused validation step with AI is not cheating — it’s being smart.
Once you’ve validated, the next major piece of the Launch Playbook is building anticipation and a ready audience. Anticipation does two things: it primes your future customers and it allows you to test messaging and pre-sell without a finished product.
Anticipation isn’t about hype for hype’s sake. It’s about giving your future customers a reason to care, to opt in, and to follow the product journey. That’s where “behind-the-scenes” content and community-building come in.
Start with behind-the-scenes content
Share how the product is being built. Show development notes, early mockups, sprint clips, or short videos from your studio. Authentic behind-the-scenes content accomplishes three things: it humanizes the product, it teaches your audience what problem you’re solving, and it gives you ongoing feedback.
Use AI to amplify lead magnets
If you already have a lead magnet, put it back into AI and ask, “How do we make this better?” AI can help rewrite headlines, create multiple variants, and spin specific versions for vertical audiences. If you don’t have a lead magnet, create an AI-empowered one that’s highly relevant to the persona you validated.
Checklist + AI: Use AI to transform raw knowledge into a compact, actionable checklist tailored to a persona.
Mini-course + AI: Break a concept into a 3–5 email mini-course and refine lessons per persona.
Toolkits + AI: Combine templates, swipe files, and scripts — all branded and polished by AI.
Stages of audience creation in the Launch Playbook
Acquire: Run lightweight acquisition tests using AI to write and optimize copy and creative.
Engage: Use lead magnets and behind-the-scenes content to convert prospects into subscribers or beta candidates.
Retain: Keep the audience engaged with consistent content and timely feedback loops; use AI to repurpose content across platforms.
Your audience is the oxygen of your launch. The Launch Playbook emphasizes steady, organic growth peppered with smart AI-driven amplification
Email remains one of the most reliable channels for launches. In the Launch Playbook, a seven-series email sequence is your backbone for educating early subscribers, building rapport, and converting beta users into paying customers.
Think of your seven-series as a compact course: it teaches, demonstrates value, and answers objections. Use AI to draft and optimize each email, but keep them human, specific, and story-driven.
The seven-series email structure
Welcome & Story — Why you built this.
Problem Deep Dive — The pain most people ignore.
Solution Introduction — How the product addresses the pain.
Proof & Case Studies — Social proof, testimonials, or early wins.
Behind the Scenes — Product development insights and transparency.
FAQ & Objections — Common hesitations and direct answers.
Call-to-Action — Beta sign-up or early-bird offer.
This can be a 4 or 5 email series as well. Work with it and have some fun.
Use AI to analyze response rates and refine subject lines, body copy, and calls-to-action. The Launch Playbook recommends running A/B tests on subject lines, timing, and sequencing during your pre-launch period so by the time you open the cart, your conversion path is dialed in.
Establishing thought leadership
Thought leadership is more than authority; it’s helping your market see a problem differently. In the Launch Playbook, thought leadership is created through consistent, high-quality snippets, long-form pieces, and public discussions that highlight your unique approach to the problem.
Create content pillars: pick 3–5 themes that align with your product’s solution space and produce content around those pillars consistently.
Snippet fast: take long-form insights and use AI to create multiple micro-content pieces for social distribution.
Host live discussions: Q&A sessions, AMAs, or panel discussions in your community to cement expertise and collect questions.
Thought leadership primes your audience to believe in the benefit you offer — it transforms them from passive readers into engaged prospects.
The final 30 days before full launch are critical in the Launch Playbook. This is when you convert interest into early users, gather social proof, and iterate quickly on product features.
Build a beta community where your early adopters can give feedback, celebrate wins, and become case studies. Keep the environment collaborative and gamified so participants feel ownership in the product’s evolution.
Designing your beta community
Choose the right platform: Use a community platform that fits your audience behavior — whether that’s a modern community hub, Slack, Discord, or a private FB group.
Define roles and access: Give early adopters perks like exclusive content, direct product line-of-sight, and feature influence.
Set clear feedback loops: Ask for specific feedback points and use AI to synthesize themes from community posts.
One thing I always stress: “If you want social proof, cultivate social proof-worthy experiences.” That means making the product easy to love in its core promise and providing structure for users to share wins.
Case study generation tactics
Use templates for testimonials and case studies so you can gather consistent, usable social proof quickly.
Incentivize case study participation with discounts, access, or recognition within the community.
Use AI to draft case study write-ups and video scripts that customers can confirm or edit.
In the Launch Playbook, those initial 100–500 customers are crucial. They become your first-rung advocates, and their stories fuel the broader launch.
Let’s talk about funnels and ads — the machinery that turns attention into transactions. The Launch Playbook doesn’t ignore funnels; it embraces them and pairs them with AI to iterate fast.
Remember: the first product you launch is the platform. Start with a front-end offering, then layer complementary funnels and offers as you learn.
Minimum funnel architecture for early launches
Lead magnet opt-in → Email nurture (seven-series) → Beta sign-up.
Beta user onboarding → Feedback loop → Case study production.
Open cart promotions → Retargeting sequences for non-converting prospects.
That’s the minimal viable funnel in the Launch Playbook. It’s straightforward, repeatable, and measurable.
AI-generated creative: original ads and retargeting
Use AI to generate original ad copy, variations of headlines, and creative hooks. Then let AI suggest retargeting angles based on what different segments did or didn’t do.
Top of funnel: educational ads that test messaging.
Middle of funnel: demonstration ads or short testimonials.
Bottom of funnel: urgency-based offers, clear CTAs, and limited-time bonuses.
Ask AI: “What retargeting ad would convert a visitor who watched 45 seconds of this video but didn’t opt in?” and it will suggest angle variations, offer tweaks, and timing. Use those prompts to feed your ad platforms and measure performance.
The Launch Playbook recognizes two helpful timeframes: a focused 90-day sprint and a longer 7–12 month milestone. Both have roles.
A 90-day sprint is for getting from validated concept to a viable pre-launch or beta. The 7–12 month milestone is for scaling, expanding your product portfolio, and turning initial traction into a sustainable business.
90-Day Sprint breakdown
Week 1–2: Market validation and persona creation (AI-driven).
Week 3–5: Create MVP and lead magnet; begin audience seeding.
Week 6–8: Build seven-series email; run engagement tests; collect early sign-ups.
Week 9–12: Launch beta, iterate on feedback, create case studies; prepare open cart.
If you follow this sprint, you’ll have an actionable product in the market, plus a list of early customers and social proof to support a wider launch.
7–12 Month milestone plan
Refine product-market fit using ongoing community feedback.
Expand your funnel with secondary offers, tripwire products, or paid upgrades.
Build partnerships and strategic outreach to increase distribution.
Automate more processes with AI while preserving authentic community touchpoints.
Think of the 90-day window as your first chapter and the 7–12 month timeframe as your book’s scaffolding. The Launch Playbook helps you move from sprint to scale without losing the human touch that made early users convert.
The Launch Playbook emphasizes a small set of KPIs and a ruthless focus on feedback-driven iterations.
Core KPIs to track
Opt-in conversion rate for lead magnets.
Email engagement: open rates, click-through rates on the seven-series.
Beta-to-paid conversion rate.
Customer satisfaction: NPS or qualitative feedback within the community.
Retention rates for any recurring products or membership components.
Use AI tools to monitor qualitative feedback in the community and to synthesize trends so you don’t miss systemic issues. When you find a recurring complaint or a feature request, prioritize it using impact vs. effort analysis.
Iteration rhythm
Collect feedback daily within the beta community.
Run weekly synthesis sessions where AI helps summarize feedback into themes.
Plan bi-weekly sprint fixes or content updates.
Rinse and repeat — keep the loop tight so your product improves quickly.
I always say: iterate in public where it makes sense. Your community will see the product improve and feel ownership over the outcome. That creates loyalty — and launches powered by loyalty tend to scale better.
Even with a good Launch Playbook, teams fall into traps. Here are the most common mistakes I see and how to avoid them.
Mistake 1: Skipping validation
Skipping validation wastes money and time. Use the validation steps I outlined — gather signals first. Validation is not optional.
Mistake 2: Over-complicating the funnel too early
Many founders try to build multi-product funnels before they even have a validated front-end offer. Start simple: one front-end product, one lead magnet, and one email sequence. Expand the funnel after you’ve proven conversion paths.
Mistake 3: Treating AI as a magic wand
AI accelerates work but doesn’t replace judgment. Use AI-generated creatives and prompts, but always review, humanize, and contextualize the output.
Mistake 4: Neglecting community
Some teams go all-in on funnels and ads and forget the human element. A true Launch Playbook balances paid amplification with community building because community creates sustainable word-of-mouth and case studies.
Mistake 5: Poor timing and soft deadlines
Ambiguous timelines lead to perpetual pre-launching. Commit to tight sprints and ship. The Launch Playbook pushes for a disciplined schedule: 90-day sprints and 7–12 month milestones..
Here’s a point I’m passionate about: in a world of AI-generated funnels and rapid automation, the next competitive advantage is community. My Launch Playbook recommends leaning into human connection as you scale automation.
Why? People buy from people. They recommend products based on relationships. Community creates a shared narrative where your product becomes a social proof machine that markets itself.
How to blend community with AI
Use AI for content creation but host conversations in the community where humans respond in real time.
Let AI surface conversation themes and promising case study candidates; let humans nurture and celebrate those wins.
Run live office hours and product walkthroughs while AI handles follow-up messaging and documentation.
The Launch Playbook is not about replacing human connection — it’s about amplifying it. Use AI to do the heavy lifting, but keep the relationship work in human hands.
Here are extra, high-leverage tips I include in every Launch Playbook coaching session.
Tip: Use gamification to boost engagement
Create simple milestones, badges, or rewards for beta contributors to encourage feedback and referrals. Gamification doesn’t need to be complicated — celebrate first wins loudly.
Tip: Pre-sell smartly
Pre-selling is a validation mechanism and a revenue engine. Offer an early-bird price or exclusive add-ons for those willing to buy before the final product ships. Make sure you set proper expectations and delivery timelines.
Tip: Build at least four funnels in the long run
I usually have multiple offers running in parallel: a lead magnet funnel, a webinar funnel, a low-ticket product funnel, and a high-ticket or subscription funnel. You don’t need all that at launch, but plan for it as you scale.
Tip: Use retargeting wisely
Don’t retarget everyone with the same message. Segment audiences by behavior (visited, watched video, abandoned cart) and craft retargeting ads specific to each segment. Use AI to generate the variations and test them rapidly.
Tip: The first launch creates your platform
"The first time you launch a product, that is your platform."
That’s an important line to internalize. Your first product is the foundation on which you build additional products, funnels, and offers. Protect it, learn from it, and iterate on it.
The recommended timeline is a 90-day sprint for an initial beta and a 7–12 month milestone for scale. Use the 90 days for validation, MVP creation, audience building, and beta testing. Use the 7–12 month window to refine product-market fit, build additional funnels, and increase distribution.
Absolutely. The Launch Playbook was designed to be flexible. Solopreneurs can compress some steps, use AI to do heavy lift copywriting and analysis, and rely on a focused community rather than broad paid channels. The core principles remain the same.
You don’t strictly need a community platform, but it’s highly recommended. A community hub centralizes feedback, accelerates case study collection, and establishes thought leadership. If you can’t run a full community, start with a private group and scale from there.
There are many tools out there. Use a combination of large language models for content and prompts, analytics tools for trend and keyword analysis, and social listening tools to aggregate public sentiment. The specific tech stack matters less than how you use it: prompt AI for insights, creative variations, and synthesis — then apply human judgment.
Use conversion rates, retention metrics, and qualitative feedback. Ask beta users if they would be disappointed if the product no longer existed. Combine those responses with usage data to determine fit. Also monitor NPS and direct messages in your community.
Your first funnel should be minimal: a lead magnet opt-in, the seven-series email nurture, and a clear beta sign-up or low-ticket front-end offer. Make it simple and measurable. Expand secondary funnels as you validate conversion paths.
Create scarcity around benefits, not just inventory. Limited beta seats, time-bound bonuses, and exclusive onboarding sessions can create legitimate urgency. Be transparent about availability and set clear expectations to avoid feeling spammy.
Retargeting is helpful but not essential at day one. In the Launch Playbook, use retargeting when you have meaningful segments (e.g., watched demo, opted in but didn’t purchase). These targeted messages convert better than broad retargeting.
Ship with discipline and build community. The combination of focused sprints, AI-powered validation, and a strong early community is more powerful than any single tool or tactic. When you deliver value and involve people in the process, launches become repeatable and scalable.
The Launch Playbook is a practical set of principles and steps to help you launch faster, smarter, and with less wasted effort. It blends the speed of AI with the relational power of community and the discipline of sprint timelines. Whether you’re a solopreneur or part of a larger organization, this playbook gives you a scaffold to move from idea to traction.
Remember: validation first, audience second, product third — and community underpins everything. Use AI to accelerate intelligence and production, but keep people at the center of your launch strategy. When in doubt, return to your intent: you’re solving a real problem for real people. Build for them. Ship for them. Celebrate with them.
If you’re ready to run a 90-day sprint or plan your 7–12 month milestone using the Launch Playbook, start by validating one idea this week, create a single lead magnet, and open a small beta community. One action, taken consistently, compounds. Let’s get to work.
